Chimney Caps & Guards
Why Every Chimney Needs a Cap.
When your chimney is left open at the top there are a number of things that can get into your home that you might not want in your house. Here’s just a few a chimney cap can prevent.
Stop Rain
A chimney cap completely stops rain from entering the chimney. If you don’t stop the rain, in time, this will cause damper and firebox rust that could lead to expensive repairs.
Stop Birds
Most chimney caps will stop birds, bats, squirrels or other animals from entering the chimney to nest.
Discourage Backdraft
Where certain wind conditions exist, a chimney cap will discourage downdrafts. There are caps that are specifically designed to prevent wind from blowing across the chimney, others actually create an updraft when wind blows through them!
Arrest Sparks
You might not see them but sparks and ash can leave your chimney and cause fires. Many chimney caps include 18 gauge wire mesh to reduce the amount of sparks and large ash that is normally blown into the air and onto rooftops.
